"Proportion of adults working" is a measure of labor force participation. It is different from the traditional unemployment rate, because it includes those who are not actively seeking work. A short supply of potential workers can encourage employers to raise wages and improve working conditions, which in turn raises quality of life. We can continue to increase our labor force participation rate by creating flexible, competitive-paying jobs for people of all skill levels.
