Obesity increases the likelihood of diabetes, some forms of cancer, hypertension, and other chronic diseases. Concern has mounted in all developing countries of the world that obesity poses a major threat. Major causes of obesity fall into the categories of behavior and environment. Behaviorally, the consumption of more calories than a person uses leads to overweight. This can be corrected through an increase in physical activity and/or a decrease in calorie consumption. Environmentally, the layouts of our homes, neighborhoods, and workplaces promote or inhibit physical activity which affects obesity.
