"Proportion of adults working" is a measure of labor force participation that includes those not seeking work. Immigrants work in many low skill and high skill jobs, from milking cows to performing surgery. Some face barriers to working such as limited English or transferable skills. In addition, cultural norms or family size may affect mothers' workforce participation when children are young. As the workforce shrinks, immigrants will help fill critical workforce needs.
