A variety of sources were used to compile the data found in Minnesota Compass' geographic profiles.

Data for some topics does not exist at all levels of geography. In addition, sources may differ across geographies or years within the same topic because Minnesota Compass seeks to provide the best available data for each community or comparison. For more detailed source information, links to original data, notes, and error margins, please see "data and notes" under the dropdown menu labeled view found on the key measure graph in the relevant topic area.

No change in median household income
aging trend

No change in median household income in most major cities

Most of Minnesota's major cities (10,000+ residents) saw no change in median household income between the 2007-2011 and 2012-2016 time periods, according to new five-year estimates from the American Community Survey. But 8 of 97 major cities in Minnesota saw median household income increase and seven major cities saw median household income decline.
