The median, or midpoint, income for all households is a measure of standard of living. After adjusting for inflation, examining the median income over time can tell us whether economic conditions are improving or declining for typical households in the community. Higher incomes are associated with better educational outcomes for children, improved health outcomes for all residents, and many other advantages. These data show us whether the fruits of the economy improve the well-being of middle-income residents.
