April is National Volunteer Month!

Minnesota is home to many residents who give back to their communities. National Volunteer Month is a time to celebrate the contributions of the 1.8 million Minnesotans who contribute unpaid time to organizations and causes that matter to them. Here are some quick facts about Minnesota’s volunteers:

 

  1. Two in five adults in Minnesotans volunteer.

    Forty-two percent of Minnesotans volunteer, a rate that has remained steady in recent years. Minnesota volunteers logged nearly 108 million hours of volunteer time in 2023, with an estimated economic impact of $3.6 billion from volunteer contributions. 

  2. Minnesota has one of the highest volunteer rates in the nation.

    Utah consistently takes the first place spot, but Minnesota holds a top spot among states for its share of adults who contribute unpaid time to organizations.

  3. Fundraising and food collection top the list of volunteer activities.

    The largest shares of Minnesota volunteers say they engage in fundraising and/or food collection, preparation, or distribution. Other commonly reported volunteer activities include general labor and transportation, professional or management assistance, and tutoring or teaching.
