Poverty

About one in six young children in Minnesota lives in poverty. Poverty early in life is associated with poorer outcomes in early language, cognitive development, and educational achievement. Stressors associated with living in poverty can affect children's emotional, mental, behavioral, and physical health. Children who are raised in poverty are more likely to remain in poverty in adulthood.
